Why would I wear a watch?

In an age where all things have become technological. Where time is displayed on every wall, wrist and display… what purpose could their possibly be for a wrist watch?

One would think with the vastly increasing world of technology that a watch would be a relic, an antiquity.

The truth is far different. Watches are the last piece of jewelry men wear. They serve as not only functional jewelry, but as an expression of oneself. I would argue that there is no single piece in a man’s wardrobe that speaks as much as a timepiece.

I founded my company Egard Watches for my father, to design him a tribute watch. To me watches have always meant more than something that tells the time. They have been a way for me to mark moments in my life and to offer something special to those I love. The nice thing about a watch is that the person receiving it wears it with them wherever they go. It is a constant reminder of the giver and the moment.

I also notice watches on other men, you could blame this as me being involved in the watch world but it is much more than that. I am frequently stopped by people asking me where I got my watch, how cool it is etc… A nice watch is an eye-catcher and will draw attention to oneself and be an immediate marker of status (even if the timepiece isn’t expensive). I personally enjoy timepieces that are non traditional and look more like art pieces you wear on your wrist but the amazing thing about watches is that there is a style that suits everyone. If you are a classic understated man there are plenty of options, if you prefer to be big and bold that market exists as well… people are all so different which is why so many different watch brands exist to fill the market of what we choose to wear.

it’s not just other men that will notice your wrist. Many studies have shown women notice a man’s watch or lack thereof. In fact in my experiences women pay attention specifically to two articles of a man’s wardrobe, his shoes and his watch.

Most importantly watches are a reminder that not everything has to be technologically advanced. That wearing something that completes its one task perfectly, looking at your wrist for the time instead of your phone, is actually wonderful. When the zombie apocalypse happens electricity will eventually fail and wrist watches will be one of the most useful tools around, Besides samurai swords and bunkers, so make the investment.
